Can valuable information be prioritized in verbal working memory?

چکیده

Though there is substantial evidence that individuals can prioritize more valuable information in visual working memory (WM), little research has examined this the verbal domain. Four experiments were conducted to investigate and conditions under which effects emerge. In each experiment, participants listened digit sequences then attempted recall them correct order. At start of block, either told all items equal value, or an item at a particular serial position was worth points. Recall enhanced for these higher value (Experiment 1a), finding replicated while rejecting alternative account based on distinctiveness 1b). Thus, be prioritized WM. Two further investigated whether boosts remained when completed simple concurrent task disrupting rehearsal 2), complex executive resources 3). Under conditions, prioritization observed, but with increased costs less items. Prioritization also observed although accompanied by chance-level performance most positions. A recency advantage final sequence, across conditions. Taken together, indicates WM even are disrupted, though they do so neglecting abandoning other sequence. Can working memory be non-conscious?

Working memory (WM) is closely linked to conscious awareness: In most conceptions of WM, the inputs to WM need to be conscious. The findings of some recent studies, however, have been taken to suggest that WM can indeed operate on non-conscious inputs. Here, we argue that these findings can easily be accommodated by conventional conceptions of non-conscious perception and conscious WM. We concl...

Delayed phases of contrast MRI, can it be valuable in multiple sclerosis active phase diagnosis?

Background: Observing the enhancing plaques in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most valuable diagnostic modalities in confirming the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS), its recurrence and for better detection of active disease. Since active lesions discovery can improve designating diffusion in time diagnosis of MS and controlling disease activity, and there is not any definite...

Verbal Working Memory in Sentence Comprehension

This paper investigates the nature of verbal working memory (WM) in sentence comprehension and provides evidence for overlapping pools of verbal WM resources between on-line sentence comprehension and other verbally-mediated tasks. We report the results of two dual-task experiments. In Experiment 1, participants simultaneously performed a selfpaced reading task and a self-paced arithmetic addit...

Evidence against decay in verbal working memory.

The article tests the assumption that forgetting in working memory for verbal materials is caused by time-based decay, using the complex-span paradigm. Participants encoded 6 letters for serial recall; each letter was preceded and followed by a processing period comprising 4 trials of difficult visual search. Processing duration, during which memory could decay, was manipulated via search set s...
